Annual Appeal: Holding Space
Dear Friends,
Holding Space is the theme of the 2023 Trinity Center Annual Appeal. Holding Space can be present with people or in a place, or both. One concept comes from a blog I read by author Heather Plett. She describes Holding Space in this way:
“[Holding space] means that we are willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they’re on without judging them, making them feel inadequate, trying to fix them, or trying to impact the outcome. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgment and control … To truly support people in their own growth, transformation, grief, etc.”
After reading this, I realized that Plett was describing Trinity Center and the sacredness of the space it has to offer. Trinity Center holds space so that others, in turn, may hold space. We hold space for camp counselors so they can nurture our campers. We hold space for vestry members so they
may offer leadership to their congregations. We hold space for nonprofit and humanitarian organizations so they too may hold space for their constituencies.
Trinity Center supports all who seek to grow, transform, or heal. We offer a safe, nurturing, and welcoming space where people can follow the path God has laid before them. We don’t need to know the intimate details of a person’s life to be of assistance: we offer support by simply providing an oasis in the maritime forest with good food, beautiful scenery, and hospitable staff. We leave the real work up to God.
While we do the challenging and meaningful work of holding space for others, we look to our supporters to hold space for us. By contributing to the Trinity Center Annual Appeal, you become partners in this vital ministry. Your monetary support will be used to maintain infrastructure, support programs, and most importantly, to hold space for the people we serve.
